Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth in Laguna Hills
Comfortable and gentle Extractions
Dr. Garcia and Dr. Conkle will do everything they can to preserve a tooth; however, in some cases it’s necessary to extract a tooth due to damage from injury or decay, or when an extraction is done to place a dental implant.
The doctors do gentle extractions and will make you feel comfortable during your procedure. They have a gentle touch, and they will put you at ease with their friendly manner. They are excellent at explaining everything that occurs while checking with you to make sure you’re comfortable throughout a procedure.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are your third set of molars in the back of the mouth that usually come in during your late teens or early twenties. They may come in just fine without causing any issues, but sometimes they can lead to problems and need to be removed. Here are some situations in which wisdom teeth may need to be removed:
- They’re impacted, which means that they’re trapped in your gums or jawbone and won’t come in. This can cause patients pain.
- They’re coming in at an angle that will cause deep gum pockets and gum recession around the second molars, which can put these more critical molars at risk of decay or tooth loss.
- There isn’t enough space for them to come in, and their eruption will cause crowding or poor bite alignment.
Dr. Garcia and Dr. Conkle have training in wisdom teeth extractions and have been doing them for many years. With the doctors’ confidence and friendliness, our patients feel at ease during the procedure. As with our other treatments, the doctors will explain everything in detail and remain in good communication with you during your treatment.
After a tooth is removed, a gap is left where the tooth used to be, and this can lead to bone loss issues. The jawbone requires the stimulation of chewing from teeth in order to retain its density. When a missing tooth is left unreplaced, bone decay occurs.
Dr. Conkle and Dr. Garcia perform socket preservation, by filling the empty socket with bone graft material and collagen. This procedure is done with implant patients to prepare for the placement of their dental implants. Even if you’re not getting implants, it’s a good idea to preserve the bone in the event that you should get implants later on. This can save you the trouble of going through more costly bone augmentation procedures in the future.
The doctors offer nitrous oxide (commonly known as “laughing gas”) as well as IV Sedation (also known as Deep Conscious Sedation) as an option for patients who are fearful about their dental procedure. This is administered by our fully board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Tomazin, who will sit in on the entire procedure to monitor you.
You will find that even without IV Sedation, the doctors will make your extraction a comfortable experience with their excellent communication skills and their friendly personalities.
